I don't like the idea of being punched in the face, is there an alternative class for me?
There is no reason to be concerned. With boxing/kickboxing no one goes 100% in sparring. Plus, with all the pads, you will be okay. We have two courses: Pro-Am and Fitness. for the fitness side: train like a fighter without any of the risks by punching pads and doing drills on punching bags along with a good dose of cardio drills. Pro-Am side; if you want to peruse a career in the ring, we will get you fit and ready, at first you may not be used to taking punches or kicks at first, but in time it won't even phase you. The option is yours.
BJJ is also very safe, and in sessions half the class is learning techniques and just practicing them slowly and safely, while the other half is about free rolling. The only way to get hurt as a beginner in BJJ is by trying to be a hero and not tapping out when you get caught in a technique.
With wrestling, it's all about technique to get people to the ground. If you are afraid of breaking something while getting wrestled to the ground, then you are in luck. You will be taught how to fall safely.
There really is no more risk in MMA than in any other sport. I would say MMA is way safer, because our instructors are consciously trying to keep our clients from getting hurt. Watch the classes and see how supportive the other participants are of each other and you will ultimately decide whether it's for you or not.

Will I need to fight in the ring when I join
That is your choice the majority of students who join want to do fitness only, and there are allocated classes for fitness only. If you do want to compete, there are amateur and Pro circuits. We compete in MMA, K-1, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing tournaments. You can get your WP and national colours, for K-1, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Boxing, and even compete internationally.
I'm Interested, how do I join?
You are welcome to give the gym a call on 072 858 7030 and have one of our team members talk you through the packages and process. Once signed up and payment is confirmed, you are to join us on an orientation of the gym and dojo facilities (compulsory before joining a class). This orientation takes place every Saturday at 13:00 sharp.

Tips To Help You Get Started In MMA Training
There are two kinds of MMA athletes – those that train for fun and those that train as a career. No matter which kind you’d class yourself as, everyone has to start somewhere. Whether you already know that you want to go on to be an MMA fighter or you’d just like to use it as a way to build muscle, knowing how to start is the key.
Follow these top 10 training tips to get yourself started:
4.) Always stretch
MMA isn’t just about strength; flexibility also plays a big part in this discipline. Stretching after your MMA workouts can help to improve your flexibility, and it’s likely to become one of the easiest parts of your training. You’ll need to keep at it though, as skipping your stretching can quickly put you right back where you started.

If you do decide to keep at it, you’ll need to be open and honest about your fitness levels. Your trainer will need to know precisely where you need to begin; otherwise you might end up harming yourself. Don’t worry about being embarrassed – as mentioned, everybody has to start somewhere.
5.) Forget about bodybuilding
Bodybuilding and MMA do not mix. While you do need a high level of strength in order to overpower opponents in the ring, being too built up can drastically limit yourself. Bodybuilding and MMA use completely different techniques, with MMA being fluid and bodybuilding being static and single-jointed. You’ll still need to do some weight training when doing MMA, but you should forget about attained the same kind of bulging muscles as professional weightlifters.

By training your core you’ll be able to increase the power of your punches and kicks. This is because your core is the centre of your being; it’s where all of your strength comes from in the first place. Try hanging leg raises, sit up punches, plank rolls and other core exercises to build up your strength.

An MMA fighter’s diet needs to be high in protein, fat and carbohydrates. You’ll need
to take nutritional supplements to increase your protein intake, and make sure you’re

Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, you won’t become an MMA fighter overnight. The worst thing you could possibly do would be to rush into your training and begin doing exercises that are above your ability level. You should always push yourself, but understand that it takes time to build muscle, strength and flexibility.

Getting enough rest following a workout is key to building your strength up. Your body needs time to rejuvenate after a high impact workout; otherwise the muscles you’ve focused on won’t get a chance to build up.

And finally, always understand what your weaknesses are in order to better yourself. Regularly reassess your workout regime so that you can switch and change it depending on which parts of the body you need to work on. Be modest enough to admit to yourself where you need help, and ask for advice from fellow MMA fighters if you think you need some assistance.

Do Females join in classes as well?
Yes there are a number of Ladies training at our gym, in the Fitness, K-1, Muay Thai, Boxing BJJ and MMA Classes, but the K-1 Beat and Kickboxing classes seem to be the most popular. Most of the ladies train for fitness and toning, but we have a number of ladies who represent our gym in competitions, and we produce champions who are among the best fighters in South Africa, and have the option to compete internationally as well.
Do I need to be Fit to join?
No, we cater do all levels of fitness. We offer among the best beginner classes in the region where we carefully monitor your technique and performance and give individual attention to your unique needs so you will never be treated with a "one solution fits all' approach
What do I wear to Class - Do I need a uniform?
Upon joining a class for the first time, comfortable, loose fitting clothes can be worn. We train barefoot in the dojo and require the students to bring a sweat towel and water bottle. After two (2) weeks, the new member is required to purchase a uniform according to the discipline(s) he/she choose. The uniforms can be bought at the dojo shop on Saturdays and they are as follows:
Kyokushin Karate: Kyokushin Karate Gi/Dogi with corresponding level belt (if prior experienced, kindly produce certificate for current level obtained)
Kickboxing: kickboxing shorts / Karate Gi/Dogi pants, Lethal Edge MMA T-shirt / Lethal Edge MMA vest

What are Kick boxing / K-1 classes?
Those students who want to mix it up and learn one of the most effective stand-up fighting systems on earth, can do so here. We offer an ultimate cross-training program for students who wish to cross train in Kickboxing and Grappling.
We have classes that are fun and energetic. There are specific classes designed for the general public that just wants to get a great workout, do cardio conditioning and learn self-defence. We also have separate classes for the student who wishes to actually get in the ring and compete. It does not matter what your objectives are, we will help you reach your desired goals.
Our classes are based on the K1 and Thai Boxing aspects and are presented differently. In kickboxing, there are no 'kata's or 'forms' to learn, its more based on the fitness, cardio, technique and (if pursued) fighting/tournament aspects.

What is Krav Maga ?
Krav Maga covers any type of attack and violent situation. We encourage members to ask us: "but what if this happens?". The fact is that anything is possible and being able to provide a solution to any situation (within the boundaries of realism) is essential as no two situations are the same. Some of the topics covered in our training are:
Hand-to-hand situations: defences against strikes, kicks, grabs, holds, chokes etc.
Ground fighting: including ground situations with all weapons mentioned.

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ?

What is Kyoukushin Karate?
Karate is a standing style which excels at devastating, hyper-focused punching and kicking techniques coupled with effective blocks and take-downs. Kicking is slightly emphasized to keep opponents at a greater distance. Strength, flexibility and aerobic fitness are developed along with a clear, focused mind and unshakable spirit. Classes are given by 7th Dan Shihan Hennie Bosman and Sensei’s Henry Bosman and Dean “Stormforce” Johnson.
is Grappling is way to hard ?
Most people think grappling is WAY TO HARD and are hesitant to give it a try. This is the furthest thing from the truth. It is a misconception that people often think that if they come to learn that someone is going to throw them into the Extreme Fighting Championships. WRONG!
Grappling is FUN first and foremost and does not require any previous experience. Anyone can do it; big people, small people, young people, older people, flexible people, non-flexible people, experienced people, non-experienced people, ANYONE.

KRAV MAGA - Self Defence Training
Although Krav Maga (Self Defence Training) shares many techniques with other martial arts, such as karate, boxing, savate, kick boxing, Jiu Jitsu, judo, kobudo and wrestling, the training is often quite different. It stresses fighting under worst-case conditions or from disadvantaged positions (for example, against several opponents, when protecting someone else, with one arm unusable, when dizzy, or against armed opponents).
